Follow the Stone

Follow the Stone is a walking practice that developed between 2020 and 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although shaped by lockdown, the practice grew from a much longer journey through movement, performance and landscape that began several years earlier.

Drawing on extensive walking in Churchtown and Marshside, Southport, I developed a series of intimate performance encounters that weave together landscape, memory, personal history and social observation. Participants are invited to experience a familiar neighbourhood differently: walking, stopping, noticing, listening and reflecting on place, belonging and the stories carried within the landscape.

The practice brings together many strands of my previous work: theatre, embodied movement, improvisation, ecological awareness and live writing. It marks an important transition from theatre-based performance into the walking methodology that has continued to develop through Walking Words and my recent writing.

The practice now forms part of the continuing development of Walking Words, my integrated approach to walking, performance and live writing.
