I have been working for almost a year with The Project Group in Charmouth, Dorset under the guidance of Sandra Reeve. I will be sharing some of this new work through Pink Granite this coming weekend. It will mark the development of my new book Pink Granite.
Like all my work the development is body based first before I start writing. Four particular phases have contributed to the writing:
- Working site specifically in Dorset in a group process over the period of a year
- The discovery of a short novel penned by my Aunt which revealed much of the family history in fictionalised form
- A period of study at Wellcome Library in London
- A stay in a quarry cottage in the same street in which my quarrying ancestors lived
The process has also led me to reflect on my own quarrying process as a theatre and performance maker over many years.
“Dear Carran,
I decided to take the time to watch your film rather than continue with my article this evening…..
I so enjoyed watching it as the video brings to life everything that so far I had only seen in your evolving score during our week in September on the written page. Here I love the opportunity to witness the layers superimposed and to feel a little the relationship between them.
Through all your work with Barba (sic Eugenio of Odin Teatret) I see how the body holds such a precise memory, pitch and angle of gesture…the video reminds me of the depth and volume of memory in the body, how we live and relive and yet there are changes and new spaces.
I think it is a remarkable piece of work, truly a living archive, bringing together her-story as Prapto (sic Joged Amerta Movement) used to call it and the recently present moment.”
